The Transportation Investment Advocacy Center™ (TIAC) is a first-of-its-kind, dynamic education program and internet-based information resource designed to help private citizens, legislators, organizations and businesses successfully grow transportation infrastructure investment at the state and local levels through the legislative and ballot initiative processes.
The TIAC website has been created so transportation infrastructure investment advocates do not have to “re-invent the wheel” to mount successful campaigns. It exists to put in one place—and promote the sharing of—strategies… sample political and communications tools… legislative and ballot initiative language… and information on where to obtain professional campaign advice, research and help.
Tell Congress to “Fix the Highway Trust Fund!”
Over the past 10 years, on average, the federal highway program has provided 52 cents of every $1 dollar invested by state DOTs in highway and bridge capital improvements. The source of that money, the federal Highway Trust Fund, is operating on a revenue stream that has not been adjusted in more than two decades. As a result, the trust fund has suffered five revenue shortfalls between 2008 and 2014. The next Highway Trust Fund cash crisis is expected to occur in summer 2015.
The continued uncertainty about federal surface transportation funds is hindering the ability of the states to plan and the private sector to deliver needed infrastructure improvements.
Call your members of Congress at 202.224.3121 and tell them to “Fix the Highway Trust Fund” before highway and transit funding expires on May 31.
